Marylebone Lateral Apartment

1400 square feet

The team at Antonio Grano transformed this city apartment’s kitchen, as part of the full refurbishment, by retaining the original kitchen cabinetry framework. This was a strategy that maximised the budget for premium materials while respecting the project timeline.

Before

Preserving the Original Framework

Rather than demolishing and rebuilding, we decided to preserve the original cabinetry framework and configuration. This choice allowed the project to flow with remarkable efficiency. It also unlocked budget to be invested where it mattered most, on fine natural stone, refined finishes, and architectural presence. The result is a kitchen that feels entirely bespoke, yet was delivered with precision, speed, and financial clarity.

During

The Process

The first stage of the kitchen area was to remove the existing tired white goods, cooker, sink and dated black glass kitchen counters. All tiling was also removed prior to replastering, the existing layout was extend to create a breakfast bar prior to the fitting of the marble.

The Signature of Marble

Marble became the defining signature of the space. Selected for its expressive veining and natural elegance, it now wraps the worktops, breakfast bar, feature panels, and splashback zones. Each surface flows seamlessly into the next, creating rhythm, continuity, and a sense of quiet grandeur. The breakfast bar, in particular, was crafted as a statement piece, an architectural anchor that invites conversation, connection, and everyday ritual.

Transforming the Kitchen Aesthetic

To complement the stone and modernize the retained framework, we introduced new contemporary door fronts. This single design decision transformed the kitchen instantly. What once existed became unrecognizable, now elevated into a seamless blend of structure and sophistication. Clean lines, balanced proportions, and tactile finishes allow the cabinetry to hold its presence without competing with the marble.

New appliances and white goods were carefully integrated to bring performance and visual harmony into balance. This ensured the space not only performs at a premium level but feels cohesive in every direction. Every functional element has been curated to quietly support the overall design language without distraction.

After

The Role of Light

Light was treated as a material in its own right. Soft ambient illumination enhances the marble’s depth, draws warmth from the timber flooring, and allows the stones accents to glow gently across the space. The kitchen now evolves naturally throughout the day, from bright morning energy to an intimate evening atmosphere, without ever losing its

The Finishing

Perhaps what makes this transformation most exceptional is what was not done. No unnecessary demolition. No wasted materials. No extended disruption. By respecting the original bones of the kitchen, we were able to honour tight timescales and remain within the client’s budget while achieving a finish that feels entirely bespoke and unapologetically refined.
